2019 International Taxation Academy complete and successful (2019.08.16)

The 3-week 2019 International Taxation Academy is, hosted by the Training Institute, Ministry of Finance, complete and successful. The closing ceremony was held on the morning of 16th August after the course was finished. The Minister of Finance, Mr. Su, awarded certificates of completion to the participants in the program and gave remarks.

This year, the courses focused on 3 popular themes: “Transfer pricing”, “From Trumponomics to tax reform: idealistic versus realistic”, and “Cross-border e-commerce and new taxation system under digital economy” lectured respectively by Dr. James Brant McOmber, Prof. Edward Wei-te Hsieh from the United States and Accountant Lin Yi-shian from Taiwan. The participants include 68 taxation and customs officials from the Ministry of Finance and its affiliated organizations of Taiwan and 10 foreign tax officials from the Republic of Bulgaria, the Kingdom of Cambodia, the Kingdom of Eswatini, the Republic of Honduras, the Republic of Indonesia, Mongolia, the Republic of Paraguay, Saint Lucia, and the Kingdom of Thailand. These foreign officials were invited with the assistance of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Three lecturers prepared plentiful materials and interpreted the complicated concept in a comprehensive and interesting way. Most participants expressed they have benefited a lot.

The distinguished guests of the closing ceremony include Director-General on Home Assignment Ms. Hsu of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ambassadors of the Republic of Paraguay and Saint Lucia, and representatives of relevant countries’ embassies in Taiwan, as well as Director-generals or representatives from the National Taxation Bureaus of Taipei, Kaohsiung, the Northern area and the Central area, Customs Administration, and the Department of International Fiscal Affairs. The closing ceremony is simple but grand.

Minister Su congratulated all the participants who completed the training, and expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for their assistance in inviting foreign participants. Foreign participants also articulated great praise and appreciation for the Academy during their thank-you remarks.

In order to enhance the professional and foreign language ability of domestic tax officials, to provide a platform for discussing and exchanging information with tax officials from friendly countries, and to expand taxation diplomacy, the MOFTI will continue to plan and improve the programs.
