The closing ceremony of the 2017 International Taxation Academy held on 18 August at the Training Institute, MOF was presided over by the Minister of Finance, Mr. Sheu Yu-jer. In the ceremony, the Minister awarded certificates of completion to the participants in the program.

This year, the courses focused on (1) Place of Effective Management (PEM), (2) Communication, and (3) Transfer Pricing and Intangibles. High-level government officials from nine countries including Albania, Belize, Bulgaria, Honduras, Indonesia, Jordan, Malaysia, Mongolia, and Thailand participated in the Academy, along with thirsty-seven local participants.

Minister Sheu expressed gratitude to the Southern Methodist University School of Law for helping the MOF in inviting internationally renowned taxation experts to lecture on the course. He also expressed appreciation to theMinistry of Foreign Affairs for assisting foreign participants to travel to Taiwan and take part in the Academy.

Minister Sheu stressed that in order to maintain tax fairness and justice, establish a better tax environment, and keep pace with global trends; the Ministry of Finance continues to promote a number of important tax policies. In regard to taxation, the "Taxpayer Rights Protection Act" is enacted for the purposes of insuring the rights of taxpayers, achieving tax equity, and carrying through the due process of law. Given the rapid rise of e-commerce, the growth of on-line transactions, and the need to comply with world trends, the Ministry of Finance has recently amended the "Value-Added and Non-Value-Added Business Tax Act" for cross-border electronic services transactions.

Our government advocates the fostering of international taxation dialogues by hosting international training seminars such as the Academy to share taxation experiences and expertise among tax officials and experts.
